About the Painting

Saba is the Hebrew word for grandfather. One day, I was scrolling through Facebook when a friend posted an old, timestamped photograph. Something told me it wasn't just a memory, so I reached out to check in. That's when I learned he was dying of cancer, and he was sharing reminiscent moments without captions. The next morning, he watched me paint this portrait over video call.  It was the last time we spoke. A canvas print reached him three continents away. He had no strength to confirm receipt, being in a different timezone and continent. Four days later, one of his daughters posted about his passing on his profile. A moment of connection will stay forever in your mind. Check in on your friends. You never know when an old photograph is really a goodbye.
